Fridges of Coworking and Office Spaces Everywhere Need Frego

Frego Admin - Wednesday, September 28, 2016

One look inside the fridge at my co-working space and I’m saying, “Frego, people…c’mon.” Have we not evolved past guessing what lunches have been in there and for how long and dealing with other people’s messy food situations? Despite the grand-scale diligence, rule enforcement, reminders and sometimes public shaming of known leavers of leftovers too long -- unorganized, expired contents and fridge mayhem happens every day!

At our co-working space, the community managers often have the daunting task of fridge enforcement. The fridge, despite frequent purges and regular cleaning fills up quickly and foods are forgotten just as quickly. I am guilty! Just today I brought in leftovers for lunch and couldn’t quite finish them so one slice of fiesta flatbread remained as I dashed out the door to make it to yoga. My intentions were there… I even stopped, pausing in the kitchen where I could NOT remember my intended task of grabbing my leftovers in the fridge because I wouldn’t be back for a week. This is how it happens people.

Fridges in co-working spaces across America are suffering.  And co-workers like me, who have a five-day a month membership and choice of four locations, are exponentially contributing to the problem. Let Frego help. In addition to being commuter-friendly in their leak-proof design, Frego food storage containers are labeling and relabeling-friendly.  With a dry erase marker, found in any smart co-working space, you can write on your Frego container. It easily wipes clean when you are so inspired to write a new message. Might we suggest writing an expiration date, your name and a smiley or threatening face (do not touch my fancy restaurant leftovers) on your Frego.

Frego will keep your fridge colorful, labeled with contents that are easily stackable.  Obviously, this delightful, organized vision of a fridge can work in homes across the country too, but we’re starting the vision with co-workers, co-working communities and commuters.

Share with us, co-workers and commuters: what does your fridge look like and what are your worst nightmares? How do you see Frego improving your fridge situation? Submit your pic and a brief story by October 31 to win a set of Frego containers. We look forward to helping you do your part in contributing to your co-working kitchen and maintaining healthy relationships with your co-workers!

The ABCs of Back to School Lunches

Frego Admin - Tuesday, August 16, 2016

The ABC’s of Back to School Lunches

Alex. Brianna. Claire. Your darling ones -- eleven, nine and seven. Suddenly summer is over and it’s time to think about back to school.

For parents who enjoy knowing exactly what their kids are eating, summer is great for fueling kids with an abundance of fruits and vegetables and meals made by you (or your child for that matter!). It can be daunting to send them into environments, like school, where you have less control over their exposure and options. Just know that while there’s not much you can do to protect them on the playground, you can control what they eat each and everyday.

Inevitably, back-to-school time begs the question: What are they going to have for lunch? Are you going to commit to packing a lunch for them or having items on hand that they can assemble and pack for themselves? Are they going to eat school lunch? Or maybe it is a combination of home and school lunches for them. There is no end to the possibilities and options you could consider. And given variations in school food protocol and that each child may be distinctly different based on food allergies and pure personal preferences -- you have your work cut out for you.

Frego to the rescue! We have had all of these same thoughts and challenges. We’ve channeled them into the thoughtful design of our food storage container system so you’re not left wishing your current containers were more versatile. Here’s a little schooling on how Frego addresses your back to school concerns with our six S’s:

  1. Sight: Our clear glass containers made of borosilicate glass that won’t ever shatter, keep your food in plain sight and make lunch visually appealing for kids and easy to find for parents.
  2. Size: Our 2-cup size is perfect for younger kids and tweens; while teens and up might opt for our 4-cup size as their appetites grow. With flat containers they stack up well for backpack transport.
  3. Sleeve: Our glass container then fits into our colorful sleeve for non-slip grip for all around convenience in portability.
  4. Snap: Our snap and seal lid is made of silicone that won’t ever warp, crack or stain so you get a perfect fit that’s easily sealed and leak-proof.
  5. Scribe: Our containers have a writeable surface! Use a dry erase marker to write whatever you like then simply wipe it off with a wet paper towel and repeat. Alex. Brianna. Claire – they all get theirs.
  6. Smiles: Our brightly colored containers make eating on the go fun and appealing. Truly for kids we know this goes an exponentially long way. Everyone’s happy. Everyone smiles at lunch time: )

When you add up the benefits of Frego, it’s the right answer. We love to see parents free up their energy for back to school lunches so they can focus on selecting and preparing the healthy mix of foods. We also like to remind them of a significant and surprisingly overlooked benefit: Frego containers are non-toxic! Here are some of our favorite school lunch food resources:  Good Housekeeping, Weelicious, and The Organic Kitchen. You can also find tips on back-to-school from one of our favorite moms, SuperMoms360, in her Back-to-School Guide.

Fun Green Ideas for Kids

Frego Admin - Wednesday, February 24, 2016
Do you love to find new and unique ways to be green in your home? We do too!

If you love the idea of being more green at home but don't think you have the time or energy, don't be scared away! Being eco-friendly doesn't have to be a difficult and time-consuming thing ... and it is something we are super passionate about. (No surprise there, right? ;) )

So naturally (no pun intended) we just love finding new and unique ways to bring "go-green" efforts into the home » especially when the kiddos can be also involved » and they love it!

Our frego kids are all about finding new ways to help protect the environment so we thought it would be fun to share a few of our ideas with you. (We do have to admit ... there are times when these eco-friendly little ones would rather take a bath than shower, and we all know that isn't the BEST way to conserve water. But hey, sometimes a bubble bath is in order, right?!)

Build a Compost Spring cleaning isn't very far away. While cleaning up your yard, build a compost pile and teach your children the benefits of the pile and what can be added to it. You can even bring this activity inside by composting kitchen scraps too!

DIY Recycled Bird FeedersWe're already hearing the birds chirping away as the snow melts, and we're sure they're hungry! Why not draw them into your yard with a recycled bird feeder?? It's a super fun activity the whole family can join in on » crafting them and watching the birds flock to feed. Try making your feeder from a recycled tin can, ketchup bottleor even a wine bottle!

Plant a Garden Here's another chance to recycle » and yet another cute mason jar idea! Plant an herb garden. Give each jar it's own herb and tag and watch the seeds sprout and grow! (And then enjoy using them in your cooking too, of course!) This is a great way to teach your children about the importance of sustainability and show them how to properly use each herb in the kitchen.

(We know there are some cat loving frego fans out there so we have to mention » you can grow catnip this way too!)

Ready to make every day Earth Day with us? Share your awesome green ideas and activities with us over on Twitter » we'd seriously love to hear from you!

Happy » Healthy « Valentine's Day

Frego Admin - Monday, February 08, 2016
Whether you're spending a night in with your family, a solo night with your sweetie, or hosting a night for your friends, you'll want to make sure you have some fun and festive snacks for everyone to nibble on.

Sure, you could just turn everything into pink and red hearts, but in true frego spirit, we have to say » be original. (And healthy, of course!)

We've rounded up some of our favorite ideas from the Internet to share with you so it will be extra easy for you and your loved ones to enjoy an extra festive, creative + healthy holiday.

Even better yet? Each idea is kid-friendly, creating an awesome way for your kiddos to get involved and help you prepare healthy treats + snacks.

Fruit Wands from @AFewShortCuts are super cute and extra easy.

While sticking to the kabob theme » @bonbonbreak's Cupid Kabobs are also a cute way to display juicy fruits and make a play on cupid's love arrow.

Add some pizazz to the day of love with @JaneCan_'s Marshmallow Pops. (Sure, these treats are a bit more sugary than the others, but each pop includes just one marshmallow so we didn't think they would be that bad. Plus, we all like a little treat from time to time, right?)

Since chocolate and berries seem to be a Valentine's Day staple, switch it up by trying @2simplyinspire's Raspberries with White Chocolate. (Yum!)

Why not sparkle up your decorating game? We are loving the Dipped and Decorated Pretzels we found on @5minutesformom's awesome blog. (Aren't they just adorable?!)

More of a savory person? @HungryHappening's Mozzarella Cheese Filled Hearts are sure to hit the spot. (We've tried them and, trust us... they're delicious!)

We have to hear from you » What is your favorite Valentine's Day snack or treat? Come on over to Twitter and tell us using the hashtag #fregoliving!

GET TO KNOW KRIS TROSKA A cat loving frego fanatic.

What is your best kitchen tip?
Prep work: Get a few things done early to make meals easier. frego is perfect for storing different ingredients in different stages of prep – it seals well, heats perfectly, and washes up easily.

What is your favorite dinner to prepare?
Indian food is my favorite but I love all food! I usually make ‘extra’ of foods (like veggies or meat) as the seed for the next meal (that is when frego comes into play – making storage and reheating a breeze!).

What do you love most about frego?
I love how easy they are to use and wash. It is amazing how evenly and nicely food heats in them, but aren't hot on your hands! And, they are perfect for toting around leftovers when we eat out.

What do you love to do in your free time?
I love to hike in the woods, the bluffs, and the marshland (we are so lucky to live in the SE Minnesota Drift-less Area). I love to read books and graphic novels. I love to play games like Munchkin, Flux, Exploding Kittens, Love Letters, Scrabble, Cribbage, and loads of other tabletop board/card games. (We love board games too, Kris! So much fun for any night in or gathering of friends and family!)

Kris also also has two kitties, Hubbard and Shamrock, who were adopted from her local Humane Society shelter. She says, "They mostly just get Greenie Cat Treats, but Hubbard loves lettuce and Finius loves everything except lettuce so ….. sometimes we share." (Too cute!)

GET TO KNOW GAIL WATSON – She owns 14 fregos!

What is your best kitchen tip?

Don’t be wasteful. Make a menu, make a list of ingredients you will need to prepare the meals (and check what you already have to ensure that everything you need is either already in your house or put it on your grocery list), and then follow your plan.

It will be helpful to include family members in the planning session so your selections will be well received. Have an agreement among children that each person’s favorite foods will be included and that each person will eat the other people’s favorites, too. (Great tips + ideas, Gail!)

What is your favorite dinner to prepare?
Stir fried beef and broccoli over rice. (We're getting hungry!)

You have 14 fregos! (Awesome!) What do you love most about your containers?
Well, now I have two more (the larger size), and I absolutely love them!  I retired in 2015 and bought an Airstream travel trailer.

It has a refrigerator and freezer as well as a gas stove and a microwave/convection oven. Before going on a trip I fill the smaller containers with soup, stew, chili, crock pot creations, etc., and freeze them. When I am ready to go on a trip, I put the containers in the Airstream freezer so I have already prepared meals for traveling.

The containers go from the freezer to the microwave to the table, and cleanup is a snap!  This has been a great boon to travel since on the days I am on the road, a delicious meal is only minutes away when I arrive at a campsite for the night.

I use the larger frego containers for fresh celery and fresh carrots, as they keep wonderfully well in them.

What do you love to do in your free time?
I love to read and travel. I drove from Fort Myers, Florida, to Escondido, California, in September/October 2015 and have been in California since the middle of October. I will be leaving here to drive back to Florida this week.

I have had the pleasure of using my Airstream trailer on this trip, and it has been everything I had hoped it would be!  Right now I am preparing food to freeze in the frego containers to start my trip home.

GET TO KNOW ALBA CALLS CLAVERA – Our international fan from Barcelona.

What is your best kitchen tip?

I always use natural and fresh ingredients. In fact, if it is possible I always buy organic food. I am not a good cook. So, my tip is: buy always good ingredients. It will help you!

What is your favorite dinner to prepare?
A big salad with many ingredients. For example: lettuce, scarole, cheese, sliced carrot, sesame, quince, croutons, nuts, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.

I also love preparing guacamole. I only use 2 avocados, 2 or 3 tomatoes, olive oil and salt. Sometimes I also add some cheese. I eat it with potatoes chips and nachos.(Now we're really getting hungry! ;) )

What do you love most about frego?
What I love most is that they are made with glass, so they are plastic free. It means that I can heat them into the microwave without suffering for the toxins.

Moreover, the content never scrapes from the containers. So, for instance, you can put a vegetables soup inside.

Finally, when you take it after being into the microwave, you don’t burn your fingers. So you don’t need to run to arrive to the table. :)

What do you love to do in your free time?
I love sports and workout 5 days a week. Pilates and running are two of my absolute favorites! I also love nature. As I live in the countryside in Barcelona, I try to do some trekking around outside at least once a week.

Not only have we enjoyed our interactions with him, we were happy to be included in his post, Lunchbox Dad's 2015 Back to School Guide, where he says, "frego's design is actually pretty creative. ... So it protects you while you handle it but also provides a cushion if dropped. How has nobody thought of this before? C'mon lunchbox engineers, time to innovate!" Thanks, Beau!

We're so happy to learn how pleased you were to join the frego revolution, Melissa!

Experience L!fe

They are a non-profit organization that focuses on fostering education, via nutrition, by providing a daily meal for orphaned and at-risk school children in township and rural areas of South Africa.
